When you cast your net into water, the net brings in everything that it encircles. It does not discriminate. However, it is not everything that the net takes that is useful to you. Not everything taken must be taken. The harvest is selective.

You cannot roll with everything that comes your way. It is true that we attract first from within through our thoughts and then build without, we attract from the unseen and manifest in the seen; but we must be very critical about what we see to ensure that it is in perfect alignment with the exact thing that we desired.

This is where we have to be selective. Though you accept whatever comes your way as balls that life throws at you, you may not open your door to let in everything or just anything come in. You must be selective. You must be picky and choosy.

Making the right choice is tough, especially when we are plagued by too many desires, when we do not have a single eye, and when we are driven by diverse lusts and thus fail to mortify our weak and erring members. It is a lack of self-discipline.

When a fisherman casts his net into a body of water, the net takes in all sorts of water creatures: Algae, Dwarf Lantern Shark, Sexy Shrimp, Juvenile Frogfish, Mudskipper, Seahorse and lots more. And even, lifeless objects.

The fisherman does not take everything into his bucket or fishing container whether in the boat or on the ground from where he cast his net and pulls same. He takes time to select from the haul. Whatever he did not seek, though taken by his net, he returns into the water.

We must do the same thing in our lives today. We must be selective. We do not just take everything that comes. We choose. We must learn to say no. That is deliberate living based on intentions and attraction.

With the present global lockdown, there is a sudden upsurge in online activities: positive and negative. We have more people showing online presence. People who hardly had time to visit their online accounts now do due to the boredom created by the lockdown.

It is the obvious thing to do. Virtual gathering has taken the place of physical gathering. Thus, we have more virtual players than previously spread across different platforms.

With this increase in traffic, road accidents have shifted to online accidents with many casualties. You are advised to be circumspect. You are counselled to be wary of making new online friends, and perhaps old "friends" who hitherto never engaged. Be watchful.

All sorts of requests have emanated. This may not subside soon. It has become the new normal. You should profile people more critically and be finicky as you x-ray their requests, too. With the fresh 14-day lockdown increase in Lagos, Abuja and Ogun States, things will not be easier.

People who hitherto never made requests are doing so now. That's fair enough. Be empathetic. And do show compassion if you can. It is the requirement of the time. Yet, be as wise as the serpent and as harmless as the dove. Find balance.

But what about those unscrupulous elements who are hell-bent on defrauding others? Be wary of the investments you want to make in order to make a quick buck. They can be spooky and extremely dangerous.

Check the source because new platforms are sprouting like spear grass or imperata cylindrica. They are coming up by the second. And you know what? They will cut you deep the same way blady grass cuts deep into the flesh. They will cut deep into you that recovery will take some time.

Your resolve to hold on is being tried. If you are the greedy type, you would not escape their net. Many arrows are being shot from different places to different places. It's the internet. It's a global market. Be cautious. Hold on to the little you have. Just eat the little you can find and build your mind.

People will just do anything to survive this time. Humans are more desperate now than ever before. Don't be a victim. Don't be a prey to the too many and ever-increasing predators lurking in wait. Check and mortify your greed. Keep safe. The storm has lost its power; hence it is biting harder.

During uncertain times as this, be the only certainty. Make this a surety. See you on the other side of Covid-19. May God keep you. Amen

"Mr Joseph Ayeni's book is a well researched compendium that addresses several, but salient subjects that can significantly enhance human dignity, success and fulfilment."
