Acceptance is fortune. Acceptance grants you access and takes you through the door of great and not so great accomplishments. Acceptance is truly for the brave.
What is acceptance? Acceptance is a mindset; a condition we put ourselves in, so that whatever happens around us, we see it as a gift because truly, everything is a gift; otherwise, we would not be admonished to express gratitude in ALL things.
Acceptance does not mean that you like the negative things and must embrace them when they happen. No. Acceptance means that when things untoward happen, we can’t make them good if we don’t know them enough or understand them.
Think of a condition of sickness. Truth is that unless you accept that you are unwell, you may not seek solution to the condition. Blind Bartimaeus was asked what he desired from the Master.
He responded, “That I may see.” You know if he didn’t accept the reality of his blind condition, he would not attract healing to himself and his mindset would not even be in synchrony with a healing possibility.
J. K. Rowling said, “Understanding is the first step to acceptance, and only with acceptance can there be recovery.” This is thought-provoking.
If you refuse to accept the reality of the condition you are in, especially if it’s a negative condition, you will not seek solution to it. It’s like being comfortable in discomfort to arrest the discomfort.
Unless a fearful person accepts the fact that he is fearful, he can’t explore the fear or the cause of his fears. On the flip side of fear is fortune. Accepting the reality of your fear is the first step towards overcoming it. This is the foundation of courage.
Courage is not necessarily the absence of fear. But with courage, you can have a conference with the very essence of the cause of your fear.
Light accepts darkness. Darkness accepts Light. These two great phenomena accept each other, and they co-exist. Yet, they are different, despite the fact that they roll into each other. It’s written that the Infinite Intelligence, who is the Light, spoke from the darkness. What a co-existence!
You cannot find solution to a problem you don’t first accept, appreciate and then apply yourself to knowing and understanding. It begins with acceptance. The journey into solution to any problem is the acceptance of the problem.
You own the situation. You study the situation. And this makes me begin to feel that the greatest way to reject a problem is to first embrace it. Bring your friends close, and your enemies closer. Remember that saying?
Stewart O ’Nan said, “You couldn’t relive your life, skipping the awful parts, without losing what made it worthwhile. You had to accept it as a whole–like the world, or the person you loved.”
We accept the positive. We accept the negative. Life throws us balls. We don’t hurriedly throw them away without first knowing the nature and character of each ball. That will help us know how to relate with each another time.
A life without the understanding of the doctrine of acceptance is a completely uneventful one. Acceptance is truly a great fortune. Without it, there can be no accomplishments.
